VEHICLE DESCRIPTION
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GT, unveiled during Monterey Car Week, has undergone a significant transformation compared to its predecessor. While it may not appear radically different at first glance, Mercedes-AMG has made crucial upgrades that enhance its appeal.
One notable change is the move towards greater practicality and everyday usability. The new GT now offers optional 2+2 seating, addressing one of the shortcomings of the previous model. Rear-axle steering, variable all-wheel drive, and split-folding rear seats contribute to its improved versatility without sacrificing its dynamic prowess.
Under the hood, the GT retains its V8 engine, a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged powerhouse. In the GT 55 variant, it delivers 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, while the GT 63 model boasts an impressive 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The GT 63, in particular, matches the acceleration of the ultra-exclusive GT Black Series.
The transmission is a nine-speed automatic with a wet clutch, paired with an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. The all-wheel-drive system is fully variable, capable of sending up to 100 percent of torque to the rear axle for those who enjoy spirited driving.
The GT's chassis features a combination of advanced technologies, including double-wishbone suspension, hydraulic active anti-roll bars, rear-wheel steering, and adaptive dampers. This setup aims to strike a balance between comfort and performance.
The car's construction employs lightweight composite aluminum, steel, magnesium, and fiber composites, but the addition of technology and features has increased its weight to 1970 kg for both variants.
Active aerodynamic elements, including a retractable rear spoiler and underbody adjustments, enhance the GT's efficiency and reduce lift. Its design maintains the classic long hood and balanced proportions while introducing modernized lighting units for a fresh look.
Inside the cabin, the GT offers an updated interior with the latest MBUX infotainment system, ambient lighting, and an LCD-equipped AMG steering wheel.
While the pricing and availability details for the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT are yet to be announced, it is expected to hit the market in early 2024. This new generation of the GT continues to deliver powerful performance and now offers increased practicality, making it an exciting addition to the Mercedes-AMG lineup.
